This Working Group was created following the unanimous acceptance on both parts of a DAWN alliance (Level 4) with DC Palestine Solidarity (DCPS; the DC region coalition of pro-Palestine groups) whereby we actually joined each others' memberships. The Working Group goal is to support each others' events - DAWN - anti-war and justice issues pertaining to American society and policy, and DCPS events supporting the liberation of the Palestinian people, and the end of Israeli occupation and apartheid. We see these two sets of issues as actually two parts of a single strategy of President Bush and his neocon backing. To describe it simplistically, Bush (1) starts wars to get rid of unfriendly regimes under the guise of the war on terrorism, (2) installs new governments that are democratic only to the extent that they are still friendly to Bush's imperialistic goals, under the guise of spreading democracy, (3) which then leads to economic exploitation by American corporations, the World Bank and IMF. An important and very sad part of the situation is how the American press has become the propaganda mouthpiece of Bush and the neocons, especially in their refusal to cover the myriad of non-violent efforts of both the Palestinian and Iraqi peoples to get rid of their respective occupations, and get on with rebuilding their own societies in their own way, at their own pace.
