Come with flyers to a small, mostly informal action outside the Silver Spring Recruiting Station at 10 AM, Saturday, June 18, at the recruiting center at 8202 Georgia Avenue (just blocks from the Silver Spring Metro Station).
The purpose of this protest is to:
1) to have at least a low-level continuous presence at this recruiting station;
2) to build for the upcoming Silver Spring community meeting and
3) to build for the next large action in Silver Spring.
We will have several small protests, and we encourage people in groups of two or more to go out
there whenever possible to flyer and protest (or alternatively at the Metros at Silver Spring or Takoma Park).
We are also working on a Silver Spring counter-recruitment community meeting would happen the week following July 4. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for July 7. The purpose of this meeting is to 1) build for the next large
action at the Silver Spring Recruiting Station; 2) educate the neighborhoods about the evils of recruiting, what can be done about it, etc.; 3) help seed a local community group in Silver Spring working around these issues - beginning with the creation of a mailing list dedicated to Silver Spring peace activism.
We are also planning our next large Silver Spring protest demo about two weeks following the community meeting. Details forthcoming.
After that happens, we are committed to protesting there again, and hopefully this strategy of community awareness, community organizing, direct protest, and constant pressure on this one recruiting station can generate its own buzz so that we can stop the fuel of the war machine.
