As DAWN continues to successfully organize counter-recruitment groups throughout the DC area a community forum is planned for September 14 at 7pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington (4444 Arlington Blvd./Route 50) in Arlington, Virginia. J.E. McNeil, Executive Director of the Center on Conscience and War, will discuss conscientious objection, the Selective Service System, and why a return to the draft may be imminent. John Judge, a long-time veteran of the counter-recruitment movement and peace and social justice activist, will speak about his efforts over the last several decades in counter-recruiting, Pat Elder a Montgomery County parent, activist, and DAWN member will discuss his and DCRESL's efforts organizing counter-recruitment activities in Montgomery County, Maryland, Libby Garvey of the Arlington County School Board will share her knowledge about issues like No Child Left Behind and "Opt Out" policies pertaining to military recruitment of children in the schools, and one of the parents organizing in Montgomery County will also be featured. Military recruiting in our schools, counter-recruiting, & the draft Youth and adults are urged to join our discussion on recruiting and draft issues, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 7 to 9 pm, in the Fellowship Hall of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, 4444 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22204.
